cicadas

The cicadas are driving me batty. There are so many and they are so loud. When we find them and it's easy to do, we feed them to the chooks who love them. When ever the chooks see us foraging around in the grass they know what treat they are about to get. We have spoilt chooks. With the cicadas I'm saving the wings from the dead ones I find to use in an art project, I'm not sure how I'll use them yet but something will come to me.

all for now

eegads!! another post & the flu

My second post, wonders will never cease. I thought I created this on a whim, a spur of the moment sort of thing, but here I am writing again. Actually, I want to thank Louise from lululollylegs. (sorry I don't know how to create a html link) I was inspired to start after reading hers, so "thanks Louise".

I've had the flu (again). This year year I've had a bad dose of the flu 3 times all in the last 6 months. I don't know what I have to do to stop getting it. I'm tired of feeling achey, tired well you know how it goes. On the plus side I got to sleep for 2 days.

I did get to the Whittlesea Show. The weather was good. I was sick but I still enjoyed it. Himself spent most of his time looking at trackors and talking to the trackor guys while I spent my time in the craft hall. There were some amazing pieces. I wanted to take photos in there but I wasn't sure if I should, also there would have been glare off the glass surrounding the exhibits. When I can I'll add the photos I took. I didn't take many, but some.

On the craft front, I've started taking apart some jeans I bought at the garage sale at $1 a pair. Also from the sale I bought an overlocker for $50, a wooden shelf $2 with A4 sized compartments on it, a rabbit hutch $20. I think there was something else but I can't remember what it is. I think it was a computer monitor for free.

Also crafty, I'm trying a new (to me) crochet stitch, it's called 'lemon peel'. It's very simple stitch, which I like, it's a double crochet then a treble. It goes long like that. I want to make squares and make them all into a baby blanket.
The jeans I mentioned earlier are going to be turned into BBQ aprons and bags. I have heaps of vintage buttons so I think I might decorate the bags with them. I wish I could get this picture thing happening then I could show you what I mean.

I'm signing off as I'm still not feeling well and I can't concentrate anymore.

A new begining

Well, this is my first post. I hope I have something worthwhile to say and I hope that whom ever reads this will think so too.

The title for my blog came from something my mother always said to me when I was small when I asked what was dinner. "Shim shams" she'd say. "What's shim shams?" I'd ask. "Oh, you'll see". Dinner being dinner was always different so I was often confused. Now, many years later I have finally worked it out. It means a bit of this and a bit of that. So, I thought it was an appropriate name for this blog.

My Mum died of a brain tumor in 1990 and I miss her every day. We never got to have an adult to adult relationship and that's one of my life regrets, but it's something out of my control so I have to accept it and value the time we did have. She was 63 when she died.

My computer is unwell so I'm writing this on a laptop and not my usual computer where all my photos are, so until then it will have to be text only, sorry about the boringness.

Tomorrow I'm off to a giant garage sale. It goes for 4 days and is a bi-annual event. I hope to find some bargins especially in the furniture area, not that I need more furniture, but I want to repaint it or whatever it needs and resell it. I might even find something I do need. I'm going aquipped with the trailer just in case. After bargin hunting or you could call it nurturing my vice, family and I are off to the Whittlesea Agricultural Show. I have'nt been there for ages so I am looking forward to it. There won't be any horses this year due to the horse flu. Victoria hasn't had signs of it as yet but no chances are being taken, so no horses.

Well, that's all for now. I'll report on how I got on later.
